Settlement and exploitation of marine resources by prehistoric societies
This research line explores the diachronic relationship between prehistoric societies and the marine environment, spanning from the Middle Pleistocene to the mid-2nd millennium BCE. It focuses on analyzing the broad connection of Paleolithic and Neolithic/Late Prehistoric communities with the sea from an interdisciplinary perspective. We incorporate diverse approaches from geoarchaeology, archaeometry, archaeozoology, and bioarchaeology to understand this interaction. Additionally, the research includes studying the mobility of human groups and marine products towards inland settlements, examining the dynamics of exchange, distribution, redistribution, and trade within the prehistoric historical process.
