Biological oceanography
Biological oceanography
This research line focuses on the comprehensive study of aquatic ecosystems, encompassing a diversity of environments including: oceanic waters, coastal marine waters, and continental waters. The research is conducted at various levels, from an ecophysiological to an ecosystem approach, with a strong emphasis on both basic and applied aspects. Among other areas, this line of research includes the study of:
- Structure and dynamics of aquatic communities.
- Physics-biology interactions in pelagic ecosystems.
- Biogeochemical cycles (carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus) in aquatic systems.
- Remote sensing in oceanic and continental systems.
- Dynamics of particulate matter in the water column.
- Size distributions of the planktonic community.
- Epicontinental aquatic ecosystems.
- Distribution, composition, and abundance of marine and continental plankton.
- Physics-biology coupling models through the implementation of biological processes in hydrodynamic models.
