Results Presentation – PHYTOWELFISH project 17 March 2026

The University of Cádiz is organizing a workshop to present the results of the PHYTOWELFISH project: “Phytogenic innovation for sustainable aquaculture” The main objective of this project is to improve animal welfare and the quality of aquaculture products destined for consumption through the application of phytogenic nutraceuticals via fish feed.

During the workshop, the work carried out within the framework of the project will be presented, detailing the in vivo trials conducted to analyze the effects of different nutraceuticals on farmed species. These studies evaluated the impact of these compounds on stress response, energy metabolism, oxidative and immunological status, and tissue integrity. Furthermore, results regarding physicochemical, biochemical, and microbiological parameters directly linked to fish freshness and meat quality will be showcased.

The project stands out for its interdisciplinary perspective under the One Health approach, which closely links the welfare of aquaculture animals with the nutritional quality of the products and their positive impact on human health.

The workshop is aimed at companies, students, researchers, and all stakeholders in the aquaculture community interested in this field.
