Marine telecommunications

Developing communication systems for marine environments is a significant technological challenge. This is due to the particularly adverse conditions in these settings for unguided signal propagation. Therefore, it’s essential to first characterize the propagation channel before designing and implementing communication systems that are optimally adapted to it. In this research line, the necessary tests and studies are conducted to obtain precise propagation channel models, and appropriate systems are designed to support efficient communications in the marine environment. This includes the following sub-lines:

  • Sensor networks for marine scenarios.
  • Underwater and marine wireless communications.
  • Remote multispectral monitoring of the seafloor.
  • Systems for detecting and early warning of marine spills using marine platforms (buoys) and aerial platforms (drones).
  • Use of drones in process control applications (agriculture, fish farms, etc.).
