Management and treatment of discharges and emissions in the maritime sector
Maritime transport is fundamental for global goods movement, and it stands out for its low CO2 emission ratio per unit of mass and distance. However, the sector’s rapid growth and the marine environment’s vulnerability to navigation impacts make a transition towards more sustainable maritime transport essential.
To achieve this, this research line is dedicated to innovating technologies that comply with the demanding environmental regulations set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). These regulations cover crucial aspects like ballast and wastewater treatment, atmospheric emission reduction, waste management, hydrocarbon spill prevention, and the development of eco-friendly anti-fouling treatments.
The TEP-181 group’s extensive experience in this field, combined with a close relationship with the naval sector, underpins the strong interest and promising future prospects of this research line.
