About

During the past few years, the Marine Research Institute-INMAR has been equipped with a series of latest generation unmanned marine vehicles or UMS (Unmanned Maritime System). These vehicles provide a great number of advantages over the classic manned marine vehicles, independently if they work on surface or underwater. Their particular characteristics enable them to perform longer and more demanding missions than manned vehicles. Additionally, the compacts dimensions of the UMSs provide a great maneuverability and deployability in hard-to-reach areas, such as shallow or geographically constrained waters, riverine and coastal areas, where larger vehicles cannot operate effectively. Finally, the UMS have a broad range of applications in a cost-effective manner related to scientific research, environmental missions, ocean resource exploration, security and other.

Services:

  • Marine research: bathymetric surveys; studies of ocean biological processes, migration and changes in marine ecosystems; investigation of ocean activity; survey and survey of underwater archaeological sites; cooperative work between air, land, water or underwater vehicles; use as experimental platforms for the purpose of testing hull designs, communication equipment, sensors, propulsion systems, control schemes.
  • Environmental control: monitoring programs, environmental impact sampling and assessment, pollution measurements and clean-up procedures, disaster assessment (such as tsunamis, hurricanes, underwater volcanic eruptions, prediction and management assistance, and emergency response.
  • Marine resources: Oil, gas and mineral explorations; offshore platform support/installation and maintenance of facilities, site control; fishery and littoral resource assessment.

Equipment:

  • ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle); Sofar Ocean ROV Trident, ROV Plexus, SeaBotix ROV vLBV300.
  • USV (Unmanned Surface Vehicle); Maritime Robotics USV Otter Pro.
  • AUV (Autonomous Underwater vehicle); RTSYS AUV COMET-300
