Marine sediment analysis

The marine sediment analysis service allows the general characterization of sediments, as well as the preparation of samples for other specific analyses. Granulometric analysis of particle separation is carried out by digital electromagnetic sieve, using a column of sieves of 4.000 µm to 63 µm and y diameter of Ø 200 mm. The complete procedure (with pretreatment) includes drying of samples at 60ºC until constant weight, removal of organic matter by treatment with hydrogen peroxide, disintegration of the particles, wet sieving and separation of the coarse fraction from the fine (<63 µm), for subsequent drying and weighing of the coarse fraction. The parameters to be analyzed can be selected according to needs and are the following:

  • Sediment moisture (by oven drying)
  • Organic matter content
  • Granulometry by sieving (thick and thin, dry or wet)
  • Sample grinding
  • Elemental analysis of C/N/S

Service location: INMAR laboratories (INMAR/IVAGRO Research Institute Building, ground floor. Puerto Real University Campus, University of Cádiz).
